Amazon.com is having a fantastic sale on the Xbox 360 Arcade
system for only $159.99 shipped. This is the basic core system, but will get you playing on an XBox just like their $300 models. Another thing you might want to do is check ebay if you want a larger hard drive then the one that comes standard on this system. You can get a 20 gig hard drive add on for usually around $25 on that site. For those unfamiliar this particular console will normally run you $199.99.
